World Cup: England captain Harry Kane confirms ‘surreal’ golf date with US President Donald Trump

England captain Harry Kane has confirmed he played golf with US President Donald Trump, calling the experience “surreal”.

Speaking to reporters ahead of his side’s quarterfinal clash against Norway, the 32-year-old Kane went into detail regarding his date with Trump.

“I played alright to be honest,” he said.

“We played about 18 months ago. He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach [Florida].

US President Donald Trump has had no shortage of golf days during his two terms in the Oval Office.

“So when the president invites you somewhere … It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him, and to play golf with him.

“His golf is pretty good, to be honest. I hope I can play golf as well as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. So, [it was] a unique experience. I’m just grateful he invited me down to play.”

Mr Trump has made no secret of his admiration for the England captain, calling him a “GREAT player” on his Truth Social media platform after England’s 3-2 win over Mexico.

The US president followed that up with another Kane shout out the following day.

“I think Kane is a great player,” Mr Trump said.

“See, I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer. He’s really great.”

England’s quarterfinal against Norway pits two of the world’s most dominant strikers against each other as Kane takes on Norwegian spearhead Erling Haaland.

Haaland has netted seven goals so far in what is his first World Cup campaign, while Kane has six. Both men trail France’s Kylian Mbappé and Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who have eight goals apiece.
