I’ve been a moderator here at NC for about four years if memory serves, and the Sunday Morning Movie post writer for a year and a half plus. I had found NC wandering around the Internet and I was hooked in an instant. This rich resource of information was a garden of delights compared to the bullshit that was being tossed around in the mainstream media. Whether you became addicted immediately as I did, or took a bit longer, please proceed to the Tip Jar and give generously!
I became a pretty prolific commenter as some of you may recall, originally under the screenname “jr”. I loved the sarcastic wit married to sophisticated discussion that the site offered and I like to think I added something to the fray of conversation. I had a lot of fun commenting.
But I’ve moved away from that and on to new things, like the Movie post. It was an idea that popped into my head one fortuitous afternoon back in ’25. I use YouTube a lot and I realized I was staring at a pile of movies for free. Why don’t we post them? I pitched the idea to Yves and she liked it. The Bonus section followed soon afterwards, and I quickly learned the value of a well-curated YouTube algorithm. (Mine had been cluttered with crap.) The section started off small, but now I have so much good material coming I had to expand it considerably.
I choose my material, films and bonuses, based on one simple truth: Naked Capitalism attracts a diversity of informed minds. People who aren’t afraid to think outside the box, to challenge conventional wisdom, to welcome new ideas. So, I give them a broad selection of media to inform and entertain. I choose the topics based on the readers’ preferences that I have gleaned over the years. Philosophy of all stripes, art and cinema, full music albums from a host of genres, animation, and various and sundry oddities. I’m on the constant look out for new genres to add to the list.
And that’s the Sunday Morning Movie in a nutshell. I want to thank all those who commented on the films, you’re feedback and suggestions are very welcome. Let’s meet up right here next Sunday! And be sure to stop by Tip Jar! Dig deep to support more movies and bonus delights!
Here’s a few extra Bonuses for you to enjoy!
