Matthew Bourke entered the Boatrowers Hotel in Stockton on a Saturday night last year and attempted to rob the venue, pulling out a gun, which turned out to be a gel blaster, as he went behind the counter and plundered the till.
However, he was confronted by one patron, who swung a barstool at Bourke.
He fought back, threatening to shoot the other man with the “gun”, before stabbing him in the shoulder.
This didn’t faze the patron, who threw another stool at Bourke, before the thief tried to make a getaway with cash in his hands.
However, he then confronted a woman who was filming the altercation.
“Give me that phone!” he was heard saying.
The woman fought back, causing Bourke to drop some of his cash, and he made a getaway when another patron approaches him with a barstool.
He was then chased down and tackled to the ground by several locals.
The patron who was stabbed did not suffer any long-term injuries, and Bourke was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for the robbery attempt.
