World Cup: Socceroos star Mo Toure misses training days out from opening game against Türkiye

There are concerns over the fitness of Socceroos star Mo Toure just days out from Australia’s opening World Cup game against Türkiye.

The striker was unsighted at training on Wednesday evening local time as the rest of the Socceroos went through a warm-up.

Media was only able to watch the first 15 minutes of training.

Toure was at the training ground for a Socceroos team photo prior to the commencement of training.

The Socceroos did not provide specifics as to why Toure was absent from Wednesday’s session but said he was expected to train on Thursday.

Defender Jordy Bos told media he wasn’t sure why Toure missed the session either, and had not noticed his absence at the time.

“He’s a big asset to us,” Bos said.

“He’s been doing really well in his new club, so him scoring goals and his power and everything about him is a great asset for us.”

The other options in attack

If Toure was unable to face Türkiye on Saturday, it would leave Tony Popovic with four options to replace him up front.

Tete Yengi is the other true striker in the squad, but has made just two appearance for Australia, which may dissuade Popovic with points on the line.

Nestory Irankunda can play as a lone forward, while Nishan Velupillay has played as a striker for Melbourne Victory.

The wildcard for Australia is Mathew Leckie, who is predominantly a winger, but could pinch-hit as a pressing forward.
