One minute they’re flying high in the Premier League title race, the next they’re pulling out for ‘medical assessments’ before we even face Japan.” We’re building for the World Cup, and these boys are supposed to be our core. The relentless demands from club football seem to be taking priority, and England pays the price with depleted squads and disrupted preparations. If they keep coming in like this half-fit or broken we risk going into the tournament without our best talents. Something has to give. The club versus country battle is an ongoing issue in international football, and right now Arsenal’s title push is costing England.”
However these players expected to play key roles for England, their absence represents a significant setback. He admitted that there is little value in forcing players to join up if they are not fully fit, especially given the demanding club schedule.
