Despite desperate efforts by paramedics, the man died at the scene.
Neighbour Aaron Gregory said he woke in the early hours of the morning to desperate cries for help.
“I woke up about 3am to the sound of screaming – help me, help me, help me,” he said.
Police and paramedics flooded the street as officers secured the scene around the apartment block.
Gregory said the commotion outside was alarming.
“A little bit unnerving but hearing the police sirens I was like it’s going to get sorted out pretty quickly,” he said.
Another resident, Sid Bangar, said he was stunned by the scale of the emergency response.
“I just pulled over and saw the cops, very unreal to see cops in my area,” he said.
Investigators believe the man did not live at the unit and are now trying to establish exactly what happened before the fall.
It’s understood that a party was under way inside the apartment before the incident, but by the time police and paramedics arrived, guests had already left.
Detectives are treating the death as suspicious and are not ruling out arrests or charges as inquiries continue.
Bangar said the incident had left neighbours “very heartbroken” and “very sad”.
A crime scene remains in place while police continue speaking with witnesses and reviewing evidence.
