Gigi Lamayne Opens Up About Her Creative Shift Into 3-Step & Afro House

Gigi Lamayne Opens Up About Her Creative Shift Into 3-Step & Afro House. South African rapper Gigi Lamayne is proving once again that her creativity knows no bounds. In a recent interview with Sowetan, the artist opened up about her latest musical explorations into amapiano and 3-Step, revealing a journey rooted in curiosity rather than reinvention.

Gigi pointed to earlier collaborations as early signs of her adventurous spirit. Tracks like “Ofufa” with King Monada and “Madagascar” with Makhadzi showed her willingness to step beyond traditional hip-hop boundaries. That same spirit led her to studio sessions with producers Kwiish SA and Ndloh Jnr, where she discovered fresh chemistry and began crafting compelling new material.

“It’s not exactly amapiano – it’s 3-Step under Afro House,” she explained, clarifying the distinct flavour of her current work while acknowledging its connections to the popular amapiano movement.

For an artist deeply embedded in hip-hop culture, one might expect the shift to feel daunting. Lamayne, however, viewed the transition as a natural progression. Having conquered battles, freestyles, and live performances, she feels she has achieved nearly everything possible within the genre. She has even taken up DJing, adding another skill to her arsenal.

“I’m not abandoning hip hop though,” Gigi Lamayne assured fans. “There’s still hip hop music coming later this year.” Her move into new territory, she said, stems from a desire to draw inspiration from different sounds and to present herself fully to audiences.

The artist’s comments highlight a holistic approach to her craft. Rather than limiting herself to one lane, Gigi Lamayne is inviting listeners to experience every dimension of her artistry. This evolution arrives at a time when South African music continues to blend genres and push cultural boundaries on the global stage.

Fans can look forward to new releases that promise to blend her signature hip-hop edge with the infectious grooves of 3-Step and Afro House. As Gigi Lamayne continues to evolve, she reinforces her reputation as one of the country’s most dynamic and fearless performers.
