Gout Gout is set to take part in the 200m and 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in August.
The 18-year-old opted not to compete at this year’s Commonwealth Games, which finish in Glasgow just days before the start of the under-age event in the United States.
“I’m really excited to get out there at World Athletics Under 20s in Eugene, Oregon,” Gout said.
“I know it’s a great stadium and place to run fast, and I feel confident I’ll be ready to step up and make Australia proud.
“I’ll be competing in the 200m but I’m also excited to join in the 4x400m on the last day.”
Gout claimed silver in the 200m at the U20 world championships in 2024, finishing behind Bayanda Walaza, who also won the 100m and claimed silver at the Paris Olympics as part of South Africa’s 4x100m relay team.
In Lima, Peru in 2024, Gout ran 20.60 seconds to claim silver, but he has since became Australia’s national record holder at the distance, most recently breaking his own record with a 19.67 run at the national championships last month.
Gout also won the 100m at the Australian junior championships, but opted not to run the shortest distance at the worlds.
