Organizers of the NPFL increase prize money by 400% ahead of the 26/27 season

Organizers of Nigeria’s club football league (NPFL) have announced a shocking increase in the prize money ahead of the 26/27 season.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a landmark increase in prize money, with the champions set to receive a staggering ₦1 billion in a move aimed at raising the competitiveness and commercial appeal of the country’s top-flight division.

Under the new structure, the league winners will pocket ₦1 billion, a fivefold increase from the previous ₦200 million awarded to the champions. The runners-up will earn ₦500 million, while the team finishing third will take home ₦300 million.

The revised prize fund represents one of the most significant financial boosts in the history of the NPFL and is expected to provide clubs with greater resources to improve infrastructure, player welfare, and overall competitiveness.

The increase comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance the profile of the league and attract more investment into Nigerian football.

League administrators have repeatedly emphasized the need to create a more sustainable and commercially viable domestic competition capable of producing talents that can compete on the continental and global stages.

The ₦1 billion reward for the champions sets a new benchmark for prize money in Nigerian club football and underscores the growing ambition to elevate the NPFL to new heights.

With substantial financial incentives now on offer, clubs across the country are expected to intensify their efforts as they chase domestic glory in what promises to be an increasingly competitive era for the Nigeria Premier Football League.
