Speaking on the Spreading Humours Podcast, interviewer Ayanda Woods questioned ZAE’s choice to join the label, pointing to the rapper’s controversial reputation and the challenges he has faced publicly since he departed from Ambitious Records.

“I wanna ask, why did you choose Emtee Records as a label to be signed under?” Woods asked. “Emtee has recently been deemed a very problematic artist, especially after the whole mess with Ambitious Records. Things have been very shaky, so why would you choose that particular record label?”

In response, BABYG!RL ZAE said her experience with Emtee has been very different from the perception many people may have of him.

“I got to see a side of him that most people probably don’t get to see,” she said. “I didn’t see him as Emtee the Hustler. I saw him as a person.”

According to ZAE, getting to know Emtee on a personal level revealed qualities that are often overlooked by the public.

“He has a good heart, he’s very caring, and his heart and mind are in the right place,” she said.

The artist also praised Emtee’s contribution to the South African music scene, particularly within hip hop and trap music. She credited him as one of the artists who helped shape the path for many younger musicians.

“At the same time, he’s a trapper, and I have a lot of respect for him,” ZAE explained. “There’s so much we can learn from him. I think he set the tone for a lot of the artists coming through.”

She added that Emtee’s guidance has had a significant impact on her development as an artist.

“He’s an amazing mentor as well,” she said.

ZAE’s comments offer insight into the relationship between the emerging musician and her label boss, highlighting her respect for both his character and his influence in the industry.

As BABYG!RL ZAE continues her journey under Emtee Records; her remarks are likely to reignite discussion about Emtee’s role in South African music, not only as an artist but also as a mentor helping to develop the next generation of talent.
