Matildas star Sam Kerr will leave Chelsea Football Club at the end of the season, the club has announced.
In a statement, the London-based side confirmed that she would leave the club after six-and-a-half years.
“When I reflect on my Chelsea career and doing it for the last time [against Manchester United this Saturday], I just feel happy,” Kerr said.
“Happy that it happened, and I feel so grateful to have played for this club for six years and won as many trophies as we could.”
The Australian football star has represented the club on 157 occasions, most recently at a game on Saturday.
She has scored 115 goals during her time at Chelsea, one behind the side’s all-time goal scorer Fran Kirby.
She has won five Women’s Super League titles, three FA Cups and three League Cups throughout her time at the club.
Kerr is a twice the WSL Golden Boot winner and finished second in the Ballon d’Or voting in 2023 before a torn ACL sidelined her for 20 months. She returned earlier this season to score her 100th Chelsea goal.
Her last game will be a Women’s Super League home match against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, local time.
The 32-year-old has scored 16 goals in 29 appearances during this season’s British Women’s Super League season.
The statement by Chelsea FC included no details of her future plans.
Earlier this year, Kerr married her partner Kristie Mewis in Swan Valley, Western Australia.
Currently captain of the Matildas, Kerr led the team to success in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup until it was knocked out in the semi-finals.
The Matildas’s performance under Kerr in 2023, led to a surge in interest in the sport in Australia, particularly among women.
