“I don’t really check the numbers to decide what kind of music I’m going to make,” he explained. “I think it’s just smart to know where you’re at in the game.”

He pointed out that platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, Instagram and Facebook help him identify cities and regions where he has built a loyal following. Knowing that information gives him confidence when visiting or performing in those areas because he already has a sense of the fan base waiting for him.
However, he stressed that the data ends there.
“It doesn’t give me direction creatively,” he said, adding that the numbers never determine the type of music he chooses to make.

At a time when many artists feel pressure to replicate viral moments or tailor songs to streaming algorithms, Blxckie appears committed to letting creativity lead while using analytics only as a tool to better understand his audience.
