Released through his independent label Asanda Empires, the eight-track project signals a fresh chapter for the Eastern Cape lyricist, whose career has been defined by witty storytelling, infectious hits and unmistakable isiXhosa lyricism. Translating to “My Work,” Msebenzi Wam serves as both a personal statement and a reminder of the craft that made iFani one of South Africa’s most distinctive rap voices.

The mixtape follows renewed attention around his breakout hit “Shake,” which recently found new life through a high-profile remix. While that moment celebrated his legacy, Msebenzi Wam shifts the focus firmly to the present, showcasing an artist who has embraced growth while remaining true to his roots.

The project’s striking artwork reinforces its message, depicting iFani dressed in dark attire with a katana resting across his shoulder, symbolising both resilience and purpose. That same energy carries into the music, beginning with confident cuts like “West Side” and “Corrections” before transitioning into the two-part title track, which forms the emotional centrepiece of the mixtape.

Guest appearances are carefully selected throughout the project. Csana and Snymaan join forces with iFani on “Kwakhe Kwanje Phi Na,” while Vuyo Manyike features on the uplifting “Ndivuselele.” Vee Sholo closes the record with the reflective “Into Zomhlaba,” bringing the eight-song journey to a thoughtful conclusion.

Speaking about the release, iFani described this new era as one rooted in purpose and artistic growth.

“This new chapter with Asanda Empires is about growth, purpose, and pushing my artistry further than ever before,” he shared.

The rapper has also spoken candidly about stepping away from the spotlight, explaining that time spent with family, moments of stillness and reconnecting with his cultural identity played a key role in shaping the music. Those experiences are reflected throughout Msebenzi Wam, where sharp lyricism meets contemporary production with greater emotional depth.

Early listening sessions generated positive reactions from fans and industry insiders, many praising the mixtape as a cohesive body of work rather than a collection of standalone songs. Instead of following current trends, Msebenzi Wam finds iFani carving his own lane with confidence, maturity and renewed focus.

With eight carefully crafted tracks and a clear creative vision, Msebenzi Wam marks more than just another release. It announces the return of an artist who has rediscovered his purpose and is ready to write the next chapter of his career.
