Real Madrid have reportedly taken the ongoing Negreira case to UEFA, formally requesting that European football’s governing body strip Barcelona of the titles they won during the period the Catalan club made payments to former referees’ committee vice-president José MarÃa EnrÃquez Negreira.
There are reports from Spain, Real Madrid argue that the prolonged payments to Negreira damaged the integrity of Spanish football and warrant severe sporting sanctions if UEFA concludes that the club breached its disciplinary regulations.
The move marks a significant escalation in one of the most controversial cases in recent football history. Barcelona have consistently denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the payments were made for legitimate refereeing consultancy reports and had no influence on match officials or competition results.
The Negreira case has been under investigation by Spanish authorities since 2023 after it emerged that companies linked to José MarÃa EnrÃquez Negreira received millions of euros from Barcelona over several years while he served as vice-president of Spain’s Technical Committee of Referees.
Although the legal proceedings in Spain remain ongoing, Real Madrid have now asked UEFA to intervene, reportedly seeking the withdrawal of Barcelona’s domestic and European honours won during the period covered by the payments.
The reports from Spain is that Barcelona supporters are hoping that they can get into the good side after the law after tue ruling from UEFA.
